Celebrations of Day of Africa 2025
On May 24th, Day of Africa was celebrated in Fundão.
Day of Africa began to be celebrated in 1963 with the aim of marking the founding of the African Union and, at the same time, celebrating the cultures of the different countries that make it up.
In Fundão, this date was marked in a festive way. During the afternoon of May 24, the Fundão Migration Center was the stage for several activities such as an African fashion show, demonstrations of traditional dances from various African countries, music and cuisine typical of some Portuguese-speaking African countries.
In addition to celebrating African communities and with the aim of highlighting the importance of multiculturalism in Fundão, there was also space for cultural manifestations from other countries, such as traditional Afghan music and an exhibition of paintings and photographs by Ukrainian citizens.
This day brought together citizens from migrant communities living in Fundão and the local Portuguese community, thus enriching the celebrations.
The celebration of Day of Africa is part of the Fundão's Plan for the Integration of Migrant – MIXin3 (co-financed by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund – AMIF), which over the next few years will promote activities to better integrate migrant and refugee communities living in Fundão with the aim of increasing the social cohesion of the Fundão community.
